Carnivore Diet Tips and Common Mistakes

Updated: Mar 14

A Carnivore Diet is very powerful, and you don't want to make any of these common mistakes. (20 mins)

This video will help you understand the 15 most common carnivore diet mistakes, and avoid them.

15 Carnivore Mistakes:

  1. Forgetting that seafood, eggs & butter are Carnivore (an animal, or produced by an animal)

  2. Eating too lean of a diet. Eat a 2 to 1 ratio of fat to protein! (e.g. 100g fat to 50g protein)

  3. Not getting enough electrolytes

  4. Not getting enough Omega 3 Fatty Acids (we are eating way too much Omega 6 fatty acids) add pastured butter and pastured eggs (with yolks) to your meals; also wild-caught west coast salmon

  5. More organ meat (or capsules) Liver is a multi-vitamin super-food!

  6. Not getting enough collagen – NOT powder; eat the cartilage off of bones, chicken legs, etc.

  7. Watch out for imitation seafood

  8. Sauces, marinades, rubs and gravies – almost ALL are way bad – too much sugar / carbs / grains / oils

  9. Eating out thoughtlessly – be up-front with your waiter; tell him/her you are allergic to many things – sugar, grains, vegetable oils, marinades, rubs, etc. – just cook it plain without anything on it or on the grill besides butter, olive or avocado oil

  10. Quitting Carnivore too soon – it takes 4-8 weeks to really see the benefits; diarrhea or constipation or carbohydrate withdrawal is common when you first start, as your gut adjusts itself. Make sure you are adding salt and electrolytes

  11. Eating portion-restricted meals. Eat until you are comfortably stuffed! Add egg yolks, bacon grease, tallow, fatty salmon with the skin on, etc.

  12. Processed meat; don’t eat it unless that’s all you can afford, then if so, eat that! Much better than carbs

  13. Salt restriction; you do NOT need to limit salt; there is no scientific studies that show salt is bad. Eat as much as you want – use a good source

  14. Over-cooking – do not over-cook your meat! Medium-rare is excellent; get there if you aren’t there already; it may take time, but that’s ok – you’ll get MUCH more nutrients!

  15. Taking lots of supplements; you don’t need them. Meat, butter, organ meats, etc. are nutritionally dense and excellent for you. NO fiber supplements!
